Nope. Infinity Journal is a totally private venture, a global affairs journalzine and networking site that was developed by and is powered by young professionals and university students from over 30 countries.
Anyone can join IJ!
Starting with the April/May 2010 edition and onwards, yes, all IJ Articles will go through a process where experts will review your work, to make sure it's worthy. But, it is not an 'official' peer-review process - we find that its hard for people's work to remain relevant when using the 'official' system, especially since the journalzine deals with new policy issues that are changing every moment. But yes, "Articles" (not opinion pieces) will be reviewed by experts.
Note that the first 6 editions are professionally edited and blindly reviewed but contain non-refereed essays.
Most writers tend to be graduate students (including doctoral candidates) and young professionals (including those holding a PhD for no longer than 3 years), but anyone is welcome to submit an article to us. Undergraduates who submit to IJ will definitely be considered for publication but the process is extremely competitive, so be prepared for a very tough challenge.
Please note that young professionals are those under 40 and/or those holding a PhD for no longer than 3 years. There is no age limit on anyone that is currently enrolled in studies.
S&C is definitely one of the coolest features on IJ. S&C is all about networking. As a member, you will have the opportunity to connect with young professionals, students, and others interested in global affairs, all within various fields around the world. Simply run a search and then connect so you can meet new people, bounce ideas off one another, ask for guidance on topics he/she has written on, co-author a paper together, or just chat.
The catch - its a small one, though. When every member signs up, they must type their topics of interest, topics they have written on, or topics they have a good deal of knowledge about. This is what drives the search. You simply type in key words, such as “terrorism”, “Globalization”, “political economy”, or “art” and specific members with those same interests will appear. You may connect with them via a private message (PM).
Awesome feature! The Stack is a list of all the current 'reach outs' on IJ, with the most recent on top. The Stack is a way for IJ members to reach out to, and connect with, other members. If the list looks a little chaotic, just type in the search box to filter the list. To add your own call out to The Stack, go to your profile page and type it in below your username
For the most part, young professionals and students power the journalzine as well as the networking; as such, universities across the world, as well as NGOs, IOs, and other private institutes (e.g. research institutes) are Infinity’s targeted audience. However, as the journalzine and S&C grows, so will our target audience.
The Spotlight article is a piece of work(s) that we, at IJ, feel stands out for either being an award-winning piece, for either originality, style, or for a number of other factors. IJ staff decides who gets to be in the spotlight.
IJ will always be offering our members various awards, which may change from time time. The best piece will generally earn $1,000.00. There will be second and third place prizes as well. From time to time, we'll be giving away iTunes gift cards and Amazon gift certificates . . . Plus, we've always got a few other things up our sleeves.
