“The Skull Beneath the Skin”: Examining Qualities of Good and Evil in “The Duchess of Malfi”

Literature reflects human nature and trends; it is not only the potential for cruelty among mankind one encounters when experiencing The Duchess, but also the title character’s incredible gift for greatness of spirit and fortitude in times of greatest distress.

Daniella Vinitski

Daniella Vinitski is currently a doctoral candidate at The University of Colorado in Boulder, with a focus on acting-teacher pedagogy and interdisciplinary performance. She most recently presented her paper, “Lobsters, Saviors and Electric Guitars: Finding Character in Sam Shepard’s ‘Cowboy Mouth’” at the ATHE 2009 Directing Debut Panel, and will be presenting a paper on Alfred Jarry and the avant-garde this January at the Philadelphia Theatre Symposium. Daniella is also a produced playwright and performer, and most recently performed with the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. Daniella holds a Masters from Villanova University and a B.F.A. from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
